What's "new" at Gritty Kitty (Non Hair related stuff)

Yesterday I posted all the new hairs I've made over the last couple months that never made it onto the Koreshan Blog. I didn't want to spam the hell out of people so I waited till today to do the non hair items.

I'm posting this first because I am so proud of it. This bag took me forever to make. I changed the sculpts probably a billion times, I played with the coloring for weeks and in the end, I am sooooo happy with this bag. It's very silly and I had the idea for it when I was drawing on my friend's messenger bag at work. It's like my baby that took 2 months of labor to birth, but it makes me smile every time I see it. I want to sew one irl I think.

A couple weeks ago I had a "I wanna make a bunch of glasses" weekend when I made these and Ducklips. These are texture scripted to change frame color (mostly dark colors) and lens color. I made a bunch of reflection lenses. If you look close at the old man.. you can see a porn website. :D Caaaaaause I'm a pervert.

I wanted some new glasses to wear that were thick framed so I made these. They are color scripted and other than Black & white, the colors tend to be more pastel/retro than my normal BRIGHT EYEBLEEDY COLORS palette.

My deer parts! They twitch when you're typing and have some gesture based animation too. Ears, antlers and tail. There are 3 coloring options you can chose: Black, white, & brown.

Some shirts inspired by the Venture Bros. The middle one was worn by #21 in the second season and is totally a call out to the GI Joe porkchop sandwiches video. The other shirts are just there for filler. It's really about porkchop sandwiches.

I put new in quotes because I've been forgetting to update the koreshan blog. So most of this stuff has been out for a little while. Since it's been so long since I last updated I'm going to do these in parts.

LETS START WITH THE HAIRS! Cause... yeah, here is the newest to oldest:

Fader!! Made for Fade Dana because she told me to and I'm pretty much her slabe. :/ I've just come to accept that.

Butters has texture change bows and it's cute. I dunno what else to say about this one.

Klaar.. is Cain with the bangs tied back and some little nitpicking. I made this hair because I needed something to wear with glasses. I have not taken it off since. <3<3<3

Cain was made from an anime drawing reference picture, which I will never do again because it's really hard to think of something in 3D from a 2D ref picture. But I like this hairstyle (on me. ;) )

Trillam, named after Trinitee Trillam. It has little pig tails. :D

XD is basically my hair IRL but straight. My hair IRL is this uncontrollable creature that lives on my head and takes the form of how ever it was slept on even if I pull it back, but this is the gist of it.

Kinder is me trying to make the hair of that girl who left "The Fashion Show*" the first or second episode. I really could get through about 2 episodes before I decided that it was the worst thing ever. When I saw her hair again, I realize this looks not really like it :/ Ah well, it was a test of my memory.

Due to some sim performance issues, we have to postpone our annual bake sale until next weekend. Once we yell, stomp our feet, hold our breath until we are blue and pass out OR Linden Labs actually does something to fix it, the event will be on.

If you are a newbie to the Koreshan Bake Sales you can expect great things! Well... kinda great... Ok, I'm not going to lie, it's somewhat as mediocre as a real bake sale, but you can get exclusive one time items that content creators have made just for this event.

I don't have a list of everyone who is participating, but it sounded like a bunch of people. I know I'm making something. Uuuh Hyasinth from Silent Sparrow did, Chicanery,Draconic, Sakuradawn from Lazy places... *stares*

Hair:

The hunting season hat has antlers and ears (you can't really see them... again, add fail.) It's texture scripted for 18 colors (??? If forgot the final count) The rag is also texture scripted on touch and so is the feather.

Lenin has 3 headband which are each texture scripted on touch.

Devil Collar: Collar with chain tail. This ad does not do it much justice.

Tee Packs:

The tees are worn out and have holes in the hems. But I used Tide so the colors stayed fresh.

Gritty Kitty: New hair & old(ish) skybox

I'm not dead, just busy. I've been working a lot this year. This hair was inspired by a buzznet "model". The streaks are texture scripted. It's a little hoochie ghetto weave.

Indie kid hair. You can see all inspiration pictures on my gritty kitty blog. This dude had a bitching chest tat. The headband is texture scripted.

Above is a skybox I released in January. The city scape is all drawn in PS (I did a speed drawing tutorial) and it's kinda like living in the penthouse... of a really shitty building. :D Also comes with free laundry.

For the record, I teased like I'd be making a female version. That's not happening. I tried for like 4 hours on Tuesday and all I got was a grody blobby thing that makes all people wearing it look like the Stay Puff marshmellow man. Bletch.

Marlei has streaks and little braids that are texture scripted for 18 colors. I REAAAAAALLY like how it turned out. It's a little prim heavy because of the braids though.

NEW(ish) HAIR from Gritty Kitty

These are neeeewwww *looks away sheepishly* Ok well at least they are newish. I forgot to update the Koreshan blog for my last 3 releases.

Slant has color change bangs with 18 color options including the natural hair color you purchase (just in case you want nothing to do with this silly streak nonsense.) The script in this is mono-compiled newness and unlike the older script that I used in cani and Crackfox, this one will tell you when the script is loaded. \o/ JOY. This style is at my main store in Koreshan and maybe other places. idk.

Pride is sculptie and was originally made with the "AWESOME" new sculptie build tools that were released recently in a non mandatory viewer update. The problem was that is you didn't update your viewer, which the vast majority did not, you didn't get to see any of the new sculpty menu effects. It has since been fixed to look fine if you don't update. If you purchased it at some point and you see some freaky inside out sculpty business going on, IM me and I'll hook you up.

MAXX is based off this drawing I saw in an anime artbook by some dude named MAXX. This has a sculpted beanie and a bandana underneath it, both of which are texture scripted. the colors are very muted to keep the whole vibe of the drawing. It also has little braids on the sides of the face with beads on the bottom.
I remember that when I made this I was watching a presidential debate... and I was all pissy about something one of the candidates said...

New and just in time for Halloween, Chicanery and ANA_Mations have teamed up to create a VERY fun AO for you Witches this year.

The Adult version of the AO has 10 fun hovering stands with full walk/run/flyup/flydown/flyforward/hover abilities.

It comes with a sculpted broom made especially for this AO.

The Kids version has all the same capabilities, but only 5 stands (3 that are different and fun for kids).

Happy Halloween damn it! As usual, dollarbie halloween swag at Gritty Kitty locations. This year you get a sculpted orange and black stripey scarf (as is the tradition) in regular and skinny. I have revamped the witch hat from last year with a new buckle and sculpted hat cone. It's still colorchange on touch. Get all that for $L1 at my shops in Koreshan, The Block, & Harajukubox.

Based on and a design idea by my friend Hana Timtam, Hana's dolls come with a tiny hatchet in one hand and the head of a plush bunny in the other. The larger is scripted with a hold pose the smaller has been shrunken down to fit on your shoulder and whisper evil things in your ear. Each come in a decorative box and can be found at my mainstore in Koreshan .

(note Shoulder Hana isnt really scripted with a whisper....unless people really really want that then I might stick a script in the heh)

This hair is texture scripted, the streaks have 18 options for colors. This is a new script that I've never used before which is really awesome because it's not tints, it's actual textures. I'm able to have both my solid and alphas change when you pick a color. The effect is that it just looks way fucking nicer.

This is the hat that Batman wears in Red Son Superman. Red Son is an alternate universe where Superman lands on Earth 8 hours later and ends up in Russia. So he becomes a super hero for communism and it's like the best superman graphic novel I've read in a long time. Batman has a russian hat with little bat ears. Come on that's just awesome.

How do you play? Well everyone who participated in the event put stamp cards in specially marked vendors in their shops. The cards are worthless until you go to each shop and get the stamp. Once you get every stamp you can go to the event hall and trade your card in for a special exclusive prize!

Some people are very hardcore about their stamp cards. See below!
Right now a couple of the stampers aren't working (3 stores I think) but those kinks will be fixed soon. This event runs until August 31st, so you have plenty of time to get your stamps.

I am replacing all my old playground spring animals with new and "improved"looking ones which basically just means sculpted ones. First up is the Panda, I set up a demo of it in store so you can play with it before you buy. As the new springs come out the old ones will be placed in my Lucky Chair. As a companion piece I made a Panda racing style helmet of amazing super cuteness.

Scion (A very special corporate swag)

I got promoted and I promised myself and everyone around me that when I got my raise I would buy a new car. Mostly because my car is getting scarier everyday and I commute about 2.5 hours a day.
The kind of car I want is a Scion xD[see my SL one above]. I am a total sucker for advertising that is directed to my age group . I see Scion commercials and groan "Ooooooo!!!" Everyone in my apartment building who has a scion loves it(there is an xA, tc and a xB). So I want.
Today made my first attempt at contacting Scion dealers. Two of which talked to me for like 40 minutes before finally saying they don't have an xD on the lot and then tried to sell me a Matrix. What. The. Duck. Third time is a a charm, next door to my office they have a black xD on the lot and the saleman is not a total nob. His name is Mike. :)

So far let me explain my Scion experience. Scions are all about customizing. You pick a base vehicle to start with and then you add more and more stuff to it to make it awesome. So on Wednesday I will go see my xD to see if I like how it drives and it's big enough for me, and then I say "Mike I want all this stuff on it," Mike orders the parts, they install the stuff, and about a day or two later my car is all fancy like and I rejoice.

Scion in Second Life also tries to capture this customization experience. You can go over to Scion City, maintained by Millions of Us, and buy a car. Yes I bought the car, it was $L300 and I wanted it. With the car is a notecard that has the URL to download all the PSDs for it. Now I can draw all over my Scion in SL!! Weeeee! The only way this could be better is if the car was free and mod, but I guess Toyota(*cough* Millions of Us) needs my linden , whereas Nissan(Electric Sheep) is one of those open source free love hippi folks. As much as I love Scion because I'm going to own one, Nissan still wins the car brand in SL award.

Scion City
I have been to Scion City a couple times over the last year or so. It used to be one sim made by Neil Protagonist and back in the day it was a really nice urban environment. [See picture to the left of someone's bot spying on me August 2007]

It's 3 sims now, Scion city, Scion city West and Scion City South. To be honest, the new builds are fugly. They use the same TRU textures everyone else uses and don't have any of the finesse that Neil put into his original Scion City build. As I get older in Second Life and more into 3D design, I realize how easy it is to create your own seamless textures for builds. Not only easy, but there are hundreds of high res texture sites out there that have FREE content on them for 3D game developers. FREEEEEEEEE.
Here is a professional development company in SL using store bought textures and freebie textures (I saw a Weezer fence ramp there today)! That's not only sad, but shows a lack of innovation or pride in the design. [ Update: Just heard that Millions of Us is not a SL user company, it's a "I don't actually play, but I'd like to make money off of SL" company. ] Neil's stuff was lovely though. He's an artist. :)

Anyway. Scions are neat. I hope to own one by the end of the week. I'll update this if when I see my car in person it turns out to be crummy.

Penny is inspired by some picture I found on flickr for the fronts and Penny from Inspector gadget for the backs. The bandana is sculpted and scripted to change texture. You can sit this one lower on your head, I just like the tiny bangs look for myself.

The difference in color of this ad from my home computer to my work laptop, is ridiculous. O_o I think this is a good case for them to buy me a proper monitor.

Oh wait yeah, product stuff. This is a sculpted bag. It has baked shadows cause I figured out how to do that. It has keys and a USB drive on the keychain. It uh.. has buttons.

There are 7 options for the bag flap design, which you can cycle through when you click on it.

It's NO TRANSFER and NO MOD. BUT- it has resizing scripts, which honestly for tiny people, that's better than giving you mod privileges. The script is smart and will resize the bits that can be resized, where as the already tiny stuff stays tiny.

You can find this at my main store in Koreshan, and my other shops at Harajukubox and the Block.

It's called Mark Up & Style because I got promoted to Senior Experience Designer last week. I modeled it after my bag I use for work, so when I named it, I wanted it to be related to my work. Mark Up & Style Society is a group of developers who meet in Boston for drinking and nerding. I was going to put my badge on there I got last summer, but since it's a logo I didn't know if that was kosher. I couldn' t think of how to make it more developery so I just stuck a USB drive on there. O_o Maybe in the future I'll make a bag that has my work lappy in it and leaves behind a trail of wireframes, comps and code reviews.

From all the buying ad space inquires I get, I've come to realize that making magazines in SL is something people really dig doing, much like I really dig making hair. But not everyone can do it because they don't have hosting or the proper technology to make something wicked snazzy.
Considering this I bring to you fine folks in the blogosphere:

I found this link today and my coworker and I have been playing with it. It's a free online publishing social network. You upload your pages and it will produce for you a very nice flash magazine that has page turning animations, zooming and a nice little thumbnail menu on the bottom. Again, it's FREE.

So go forth and open up InDesign to get your mag making on! Actually.. this shit doesn't get printed, just use PS. X3

Design Newbies! For the sake of avoiding "Oh god my eyes are bleeding," please educate yourself on Grid systems. [I know that's for webdesign, but it applies to mag layouts too] Contrary to popular belief, making a magazine isn't just "lets throw a bunch of shit on a page;" I mean it could be, but why do that when you could make something lovely?

Bill says I look like a cowgirl stripper... I can see that, but I still look great so he can suck it.
Key points:

The outfit is by :sey, it's the top, collar, arm bands and hot pants. It has a cool anime feel to it. The frilly parts are sculpted. The hat is sold separately and is really well textured. UPDATE ON THE COOL GUN: Risey said he's going to make it better and put it out for sale at some point. Again I didn't really feature it cause that's a tease.
The boots which I didn't detail shot, but I assure you, are really well textured are from Wither. There are demos you can try on. The ONLY downside to them is that the foot part is kind of long, but I think that's very characteristic of cowboy boots. Fun Noam Childhood Fact! When I was 6-8 yrs old I wore cowboy boots all the time which would sound like a normal thing for a kid to do, but.. I'm from New York, just outside of Manhattan. I don't remember why I wore them, I think my parents just dressed me funny.
The glasses! Nala is a really cool place to get glasses. Normally Ottico is the only place I go to, but I found Nala at the LicoLico Mall and went to her main store and pretty much bought everything. The styles range from very anime-esqe to stylish modern frames. All prims, no painted ones.
The belt is by Sinistyle. I love this belt but I think in it's original form, which I have long since destroyed, it has a lot more... stuff... going on. I think it has little side bags. It should be mod, so if you want to edit it down a bit you can. I also tinted the brown to be a little darker.
The hair is Emma by Refuge. This is one of her new hairs with the new textures. I don't think she made a big deal about her new textures, but she should have. They are really pretty and soft looking. There are more colors than I knew hair came in.

Commencing word spewing now, with hopes you are all like myself and look at the pictures and then click the little LM thingies without actually reading. Seriously other than a lot of "OMG AWESOME" there isn't much substance to my bloggings. :D

I was looking at the feed today and the first thing that popped out at me was the blue skin on Achariya.net . So off to MiaSnow I went to play with her skins. They are all really nice, and I did end up with the blue ones, but this Dahlia one has an awesome mouth so it was the first one I wanted to dress up.

One of the perks of being friends with Trinitee is when she makes stuff, she gives it to me. So whenever I'm looking for a girl outfit, I just type in Refuge and see what's there. HOLY CRAP! How did the Brood outfit manage to sit in my inventory for a couple weeks without me wearing it?!!! I knew about her jacket which looked awesome from her progress pictures, but was totally a girl jacket so I was like :/ being as I'm almost always a boy in game.

I totally change my tune when I have my new bitchin skin and female shape. I didn't realize that Trinitee made an entire outfit for her coat. Let me tell you about it, there is a:

leggings with prim garders and sculpted bottoms that drape over the feet like leg warmers

O ring collar

sculpted coat that as I mentioned is very boob friendly

Everything looks awesome together, but you can wear it separate too. You can get all of that for $L400 at her shop. I'm only putting the price because as her friend, I didn't have to pay for it and I was like holy crap over how cheap she put it out for considering the high quality.

Also in the picture but I didn't highlight it is a really cool gun that Risey Arai, creator of :sey made and had set out as a freebie at his new store location. I didn't want to tease you all because I went to check and it's not there anymore. Instead I highlighted a skull ring I got there a week or so ago. He has a matching bracelet for it too. His work is awesome. Sey rocks. Go look at his new store.

I used the word awesome 6 times. I'm going to make them all green to remind myself to learn a new word someday.

This probably took way longer than it should have to come out but finally with the help of a bunch of great people, standing at 13m and weighing in at over a ton of fun its the Robot Fun Slide. It was modeled after of a slide I used to play on when I was a kid, the slide dose work and the animated ladder is climbable to any one of the slides three levels.

The slide is textured to look like its been around for a bit and also comes with 7 play poseballs animated by Surrealia Anatine of ::ANA_Mations::

51 Prims for the slide 7 for the poseballs and 2 for the ground shadow totalling an even 60 prims. Mod/No Copy/Trans on sale now at Chicanery a demo model is out to play on.

Uruha-Gaz hair

Could this name be any more like a cough-sneeze?

Uhura-gaz (I swear I had a logical reason for naming it this) is new at Gritty Kitty. This hair was made from the same reference picture I used on gazette, but looks closer to it than gazette ever did. It's a much cleaner style than gazette which also has streaks but is a bit messy.
I am using new textures c/o trinitee. These have shine on them, something I used to hate, but I'm now embracing. The hair is built to have more movement than I usually put in my hairs. You can either buy it in a solid color or a streaked color (usually black with a color, but there is the browns featured in the ad too.)

So from here on out I will probably use these new style textures. They aren't backwards compatible with my old hair, so you can't request an old hair in a new color.

Outta The Closet: Inferno

It's very rare that I leave my house and adventure off into the world of the unknown pixels.. but Krius found these jackets on the forums and as soon as I put on the outfit... I fell in love with it. This jacket is extremely well made and I just adore the whole look. Most of this outfit is called Inferno from Barerose.. with a few minor little tweaks. For instance.. the outfit comes with tats, socks and a bikini top to wear under it. but im a very modest avatar so i went with the cami. :P Paired off with some worn out socks and some trespasser boots and Voila.. we have this outfit. Do you find yourself saying.. 'if only I could find a well made gas mask'? And heck while you're at it you expand to.. 'that makes breathing sounds too'? I KNOW, ME TOO!!! Well look no further cuz Krius from SiniStyle managed to work his primtastic skills and molded together one of the nicest gas masks I've seen on the grid. This mask comes in both a large and small version so even you men out there gasping for pixelated grid air can breathe a sigh of relief. Oh and dont fret.. if those breathing noises are disturbing your significant other.. there is a click on/off feature to mute your non-suffocationess.

Im three years old in SL wooooooopie I think that means I can walk and poop in the toliet or something, anyhow I made a dog, he is mostly sculpted and mostly hand drawn, scripted so you can hold him and carry him around and I included a set of his ears you can wear on your head.

The same dog also comes in playground spring toy for your park or playground or whatever

Flynn was originally intended to be a preppy 1970s tennis pro hair style, until Dis checked it out and gave me suggestions to modern it up a bit.

It has 9 color band on white and 9 color band on black textures.
You can pick it up at my main store in Koreshan for now, and my satellite stores this weekend.
